This week...


English 8-1 and English 8-2 
 The Outsiders.  We will be doing most of the reading in class.  After each chapter, the students will be completing a chapter summary as well as a journal entry.  There will be comprehension questions as well as assignments throughout the novel.  I will give the students some time in class to work on these things but some may come home as homework. look for a character sketch assignment coming up!  The students sure seem to be enjoying the novel!

English 8-1 and English 8-2 
 We have started the novel The Outsiders.  We will be doing most of the reading in class.  After each chapter, the students will be completing a chapter summary as well as a journal entry.  There will be comprehension questions as well as assignments throughout the novel.  I will give the students some time in class to work on these things but some may come home as homework.

"The Roots of Islam"  We will continue with chapter three for the next couple of weeks--Today the students completed a review sheet of what we did before Christmas break.  If it wasn't completed in class, it is homework!  Next day we start a paragraph writing assignment.

Next week a review for the test will come home.

 We dedicated our two Socials classes this week to Remembrance Day.  Students will be bringing home a copy of Canada Remember Times to share with their families.  They will also be writing a response to one of the articles in the handout.

On Monday October 31st the grade 8s will be attending a dance in the afternoon.  There will be a concession at the dance.

At lunch, hot dogs will be on sale for $2 outside the foods room

 We are starting our Expository Writing Unit--Our first topic is "Bullying" This week we will be working on thesis statements and organizing our essay.

We have started the unit The Fall of the Roman Empire -- Next week we will be making connections to the U.SA--The election is a hot topic in class!

There will a be a test on Friday  Students will get a study guide on Monday and a review class on Wednesday.  The test will cover:

• communication and travel in ancient times
• how historians study history (primary and secondary sources)
• the fall of Rome

This week we started our ER Verbs Unit.  There will be a short quiz on conjugating ER Verbs on Friday.
